At St Laurence’s we deliver a range of high quality, rich and diverse music tuition, which is strongly imbedded in our curriculum and extra-curricular activities. As a reflection of our commitment to music, we have been named “Music School of the Month” for April 2019 by Coventry Music.
Working in partnership with Coventry Music, experienced peripatetic teachers provide whole class and small group instrument tuition. Currently, Reception and Year 1 are taught Percussion, Year 2 Recorders, Year 3 Ukulele, Year 4 Flute and Year 5 Drums. As pupils move up the school, they will have had experience of learning a range of instruments from strings, to percussion and woodwind.
Pupils can also learn a musical instrument in small groups of 4 or 5, such as guitar and violin, with a small parental contribution towards the costs
“Mornings of Music” is one of the occasions we use to celebrate musically in partnership with other local schools, providing Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with the opportunity to learn and perform songs here at St Laurence’s as well as at other local schools.
We also provide enrichment in the form of a visiting Coventry Rock Band, so the children can experience a live performance. Earlier this term the school choir took part in the “Young Voices” concert at the NEC Birmingham. We are currently signing up to the “POP UK Schools Contract” and working towards achieving our school Artsmark Accreditation, led by our Assistant Head.
Further music themed extra curricular activities include:-
