At St Laurence's, we are proud to be a part of the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Primary Programme. A nationally recognised initiative that supports schools in transforming playtimes to improve children's well-being, physical health and learning. 

Through OPAL, we believe that play is a fundamental part of childhood and that high-quality play experiences contribute to pupils' social, emotional and academic development. Our aim is to create an outdoor environment that is inclusive, engaging and inspiring for every child.

Our OPAL approach

We are developing our outdoor space to include:

• Sensory opportunities: sand and water play 
• Physical activity: climbing frame, gym equipment, bikes, scooters, wheeled palettes, etc)
• Opportunities for construction: den building and role play
• Creative opportunities: painting, drawing, crafts 
• Musical opportunities: singing and dancing
