Summer Term

In English this term we have focused on a book called ‘Oliver and the Seawigs’ by Phillip Reeve and Sally McIntyre which sees Oliver along with his new friends, a grumpy old albatross, a short-sighted mermaid, and a friendly island called Cliff, go off in search of his missing parents. But before he can put his rescue plan into action there's the evil Stacey de Lacey and an army of greasy, green sea monkeys to contend with . . .

The children enjoyed designing their own sea-wigs and then writing a letter from Oliver to his missing parents. The children are just about to create a leaflet encouraging tourism to the roaming isles in the book – I wonder if you’d like to book a summer holiday there?

After half term we will be focusing on ‘Fair’s Fair’ by Leon Garfield.

This term we will be focusing on fractions, time and shape.

In Year 3 we particularly focus on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. The children are enjoying to try and tell the time daily. This regular practice is important as we try to try and embed this skill. Their progress in recognising the time has been fantastic. We have seen some really impressive initial learnings by all children with this important life skill. Please continue to take any opportunity you get to discuss the time – in both analogue and digital forms.

Please encourage your child to keep practicing the below multiplication facts.

Year 3 multiplication methods –

Multiplication (with 3,4 and 8x tables)                 and                Division (with 3,4 and 8x tables)

This term in Year 3 our Topic is – ‘A Passport to Europe’

We launch our topic by doing lots of Spanish themed activities, we will be listening to Spanish music and trying some Spanish delicacies.

We will be covering the below.

  • What are the countries in the continent of Europe?
  • Where is Spain? What are the major cities in Spain?
  •  What is the climate like in Spain?
  • What are the physical and human features of Spain?
  • We will be looking at some influential European artists and produce some art inspired by these artists.
  • We will be designing and making our own pizzas.

In Science our topic is ‘’Gone with the Wind". We will be exploring the functions of different parts of flowering plants. We have all planted our own flowers and have a year 3 class greenhouse. We will be looking after these and cant wait to see how they grow from seeds into plants.

We are excited to have a beekeeper coming into school, He is going  to talk to us about how important bees for the environment and for plants in general. He is going to show us a hive, honeycomb and other beekeeping equipment. He is very passionate about conservation and is very much looking forward to speaking with year 3.

In R.E our unit is called "Kingdom of God". It focuses on when Jesus left and what was the impact of the Pentecost.
